School Day

• School Hours: 7:30 a.m. – 2:09 p.m.
  • Staff members are in the schoolyard beginning at 7:00 a.m. to supervise students who arrive early.
  • Students arriving after 7:30 a.m. are considered late.
• Dismissal begins at 2:00 p.m. and concludes by 2:09 p.m.

Breakfast

• Grades K–2: Breakfast in the Classroom, 7:30–7:45 a.m.
• Grades 3–8: Grab-and-Go Breakfast in the Schoolyard, 7:15–7:30 a.m.

Lunch & Recess Schedule

• Grades K–2: 10:15–11:00 a.m. (Recess, then Lunch)
• Grades 3–4: 11:00–11:45 a.m. (Lunch, then Recess)
• Grades 5–6: 11:45 a.m.–12:30 p.m. (Recess, then Lunch)
• Grades 7–8: 12:30–1:15 p.m. (Lunch, then Recess)

Attendance

Attendance matters! The consistency for both students and teachers is critical to success. Consequences can come from excessive or unexcused absences/latenesses.

Out-of-School Time (OST)
Out-of-School Time (OST) is the time that a child or youth spends in after school or summer programming. In Philadelphia, OST programs are provided for young people in grades K through 12.

Shawmont School has proudly served the Roxborough community for generations, building a strong tradition of learning, community connection, and student growth.

The school takes its name from the Shawmont area of Roxborough, a historic section of Northwest Philadelphia located near the Schuylkill River. Over the years, the school has remained closely connected to the neighborhood and the families it serves.

Today, Shawmont continues that tradition by providing a welcoming Pre-K–8 learning community where students are encouraged to discover their strengths, grow academically and socially, and prepare for future success.

Annual Notification of Rights under FERPA
The School District of Philadelphia is required to annually notify parents and eligible students of their rights under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). These rights include the right to inspect and review education records, request amendments, consent to disclosures, and file a complaint.

Students are expected to wear appropriate school attire each day, including approved uniform tops, bottoms, and closed-toe shoes.

Where to buy uniforms

• Uniform items are available from a variety of local retailers.
• Families are also encouraged to participate in the annual uniform swap hosted by the Shawmont Home and School Association for gently used, uniform-approved clothing.

Shirt/Top:

• Solid navy blue or white shirt
• Shawmont School shirts, including Academy shirts
• Collared shirts, T-shirts, and cardigans
• Solid-colored sweatshirts or quarter-zips; no hoods

Pants/Bottoms:

• Grades K–6: Khaki or navy blue pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, dresses, or jumpers
• Grades 7–8: Khaki, navy blue, or black pants, shorts, skirts, skorts, dresses, or jumpers
• Sweatpants are permitted on Physical Education days only

Footwear:

• Closed-toe shoes, including sneakers or boots during inclement weather

Not Permitted:

• Hoodies
• Sleeveless tops or shirts with straps
• Midriff-baring shirts
• Jeans
• Pajama pants
• Tights or leggings worn without approved bottoms
• Bottoms shorter than mid-thigh (fingertip length)
• Slippers, slides, sandals, flip-flops, or Crocs

If a student violates the dress code:

• A temporary uniform shirt may be provided for the day.
• Students will be assigned lunch detention.
• Families may be contacted if needed.
